Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Officer

The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Officer is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplace. The role involves implementing HSE policies, conducting inspections and risk assessments, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, investigating incidents, and fostering a strong safety culture across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement and monitor the company's Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies and procedures.
• Conduct regular workplace inspections, hazard identification, and risk assessments.
• Ensure compliance with local health, safety, and environmental regulations and company standards.
• Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
• Develop and deliver HSE induction and safety training programs for employees and contractors.
• Monitor the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices.
• Conduct emergency preparedness activities, including fire drills and evacuation exercises.
• Maintain HSE records, reports, permits, and documentation.
• Monitor environmental performance, including waste management, pollution prevention, and resource conservation initiatives.
• Support safety committee meetings and promote employee participation in HSE initiatives.
• Coordinate with department managers to implement corrective actions and improve workplace safety.
• Prepare and submit HSE reports to management and regulatory authorities as required.
• Assist during internal and external HSE audits and inspections.
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement in health, safety, and environmental performance.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 2–5 years of experience in an HSE role (industry-specific experience is an advantage).
• Professional HSE certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA, or equivalent are preferred.
• Knowledge of applicable health, safety, and environmental legislation and standards.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

• Familiarity with emergency response planning and environmental management practices.

Working Conditions

• Full-time position.
• May involve office, manufacturing, construction, warehouse, or field-based work depending on the organization.
• Regular site inspections and occasional travel may be required.
• Availability to respond to workplace emergencies outside regular business hours when necessary.
