Clinical Resource Nurse-Nursing Informatics

Clinical Resource Nurse – Nursing Informatics

This role is responsible for developing and maintaining a competency‑based continuing education program that supports nurses in all specialty areas toward improvement in clinical practice.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and identify educational needs and develop educational programs accordingly.
  • Perform consistent, systematic evaluation of clinically based programs to determine if they meet staff needs and are responsive to department/organizational direction.
  • Formulate measurable performance criteria to assess nurses’ levels of competence.
  • Collaborate with nursing staff and other disciplines in the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs.
  • Demonstrate skill in adult education, group dynamics, curriculum development, communication, and teaching strategies.
  • Assist nursing staff to integrate new knowledge and skills into their practice and ensure that competency is maintained.
  • Provide specialty‑specific orientation to relevant staff and participate in the organization’s orientation programs as required.
  • Provide bedside clinical consultations in the area of expertise/specialization.
  • Lead the implementation of evidence‑based practice and actively participate in research to promote clinical knowledge and a research‑based clinical practice environment.
  • Engage in health promotion activities in the organization and community.
  • Manage information technology to access, transmit and produce information as necessary.
  • Utilize information gained from program evaluation to determine future program directions.

Compliance and Confidentiality

  • Comply consistently with facility policies, procedures, and practices and ensure alignment with SSMC facilities policies.
  • Complete and maintain regulatory requirements including licensure and certification and other mandatory training within established time frames.
  • Maintain confidentiality with regards to any information exchanged or received in the current capacity of the role in accordance with facility policy.

Customer Service and Professionalism

  • Act as a brand ambassador for the facility and promote a customer‑focused philosophy in dealing with stakeholders.
  • Maintain positive and effective working relationships within the department/division and with other departments/sections within the facility.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned relevant to the basics of the role.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary teams and performance improvement projects for evaluation and improvement of processes and clinical practice.
  • Maintain contemporary knowledge of evidence‑based practice relevant to the specialty.
  • Serve as a professional role model with regard to self‑development and self‑accountability by projecting the image of a self‑directed learner and setting high personal work standards.
  • Monitor clinical care to ensure clinical standards are met, identify variances and initiate corrective measures, and use this information for educational and bedside teaching.
  • Monitor staff performance and provide regular constructive feedback, coaching guidance, and support to the team on the shift; provide staff performance feedback to the manager.

Accountabilities

  • Maintain accurate records of educational activity and report as required.
  • Supervise the standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines; evaluate indicators and report outcomes and trends.
  • Initiate action and report to the appropriate manager when staff behavior and/or performance do not meet professional standards.
  • Demonstrate evidence of mandatory and unit‑specific competencies completion, accredited and non‑accredited Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) units based on DOH and organization requirements, and ongoing professional development in leadership and management.

Qualifications

Experience

  • Required: NLT 6 year’s clinical experience post‑qualification in an appropriate and relevant healthcare setting and positive written references that identify specific responsibilities as a clinical resource nurse.
  • Desired: 1 year as an educator.

Educational Qualification

  • Required:
    • Bachelor degree in Nursing OR
      • Degree in Nursing (minimum two (2) years course duration) AND Registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia
        AND valid/current national license.
        AND BLS.
    • Desired:
      • MSc in Nursing Education.
