Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Finance Controller – Trade Finance to support the financial operations of a global commodity trading business. The role is responsible for managing the financial execution of commodity trading transactions, optimizing trade finance solutions, maintaining banking relationships, and ensuring effective control over working capital, liquidity, risk exposure, and transaction profitability.

Working closely with Trading, Treasury, Logistics, and Banking partners, the successful candidate will play a key role in enabling efficient capital deployment, structuring trade finance facilities, and maintaining strong financial governance across international trading operations.

Key Responsibilities

Commodity Trading Finance

• Manage the end-to-end financial execution of commodity trading transactions across metals, minerals, and other traded commodities.
• Coordinate with Trading, Treasury, Logistics, Operations, Customers, and Banking partners to ensure seamless transaction settlement and funding.
• Oversee timely execution of payments, collections, and financing activities throughout the trade lifecycle.

Trade Finance & Banking

• Structure and manage trade finance instruments, including:
  • Letters of Credit (LCs)
  • Standby Letters of Credit (SBLCs)
  • Bank Guarantees
  • Supplier and Buyer Financing
  • Pre-export and Prepayment Finance
  • Structured Trade Finance
  • Working Capital and Revolving Credit Facilities
• Build and maintain strong relationships with local and international banking institutions.
• Negotiate financing terms, credit facilities, pricing, collateral requirements, and banking agreements.
• Ensure compliance with financing documentation, facility utilization, and covenant obligations.

Treasury & Working Capital

• Optimize working capital across trading operations.
• Monitor liquidity positions and maximize utilization of available banking facilities.
• Support cash flow forecasting, funding requirements, and financing cost optimization.
• Allocate capital efficiently across trading portfolios.

Risk Management

• Monitor commodity price exposure, foreign exchange (FX) risk, and hedging effectiveness.
• Analyze transaction profitability by evaluating commodity pricing, logistics costs, financing expenses, FX impact, and hedging costs.
• Provide financial insights to improve commercial decision-making and risk-adjusted returns.

Financial Control

• Oversee financial aspects of logistics and supply chain activities, including freight, warehousing, insurance, and shipment costs.
• Ensure accurate costing, reconciliation, and settlement of trading transactions.
• Strengthen financial controls throughout the shipment-to-cash cycle.

Financial Reporting

• Ensure accurate accounting and reporting of:
  • Inventory valuation
  • Revenue recognition
  • Financing costs
  • FX and hedge accounting
  • Transaction and regional profitability
• Prepare management reports covering trading performance, liquidity, working capital utilization, banking exposure, and financial risk.
• Enhance internal controls and reporting processes.

Systems & Process Improvement

• Support continuous improvement of ERP and trade finance systems such as SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics.
• Drive automation and digitization of finance and trade documentation.
• Improve reporting accuracy and operational efficiency.

Qualifications & Experience

• Chartered Accountant (CA), CFA, or MBA in Finance.
• 10–15 years of overall finance experience.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in commodity trading finance or trade finance.
• Experience within commodities such as metals, mining, minerals, energy, or other globally traded products.
• Strong knowledge of international trade finance instruments and structured commodity financing.
• Proven experience managing banking relationships, trade finance facilities, and credit lines.
• Solid understanding of IFRS, treasury operations, commodity accounting, and financial risk management.
