Staff Nurse-OPD Surgical- ENT Clinic

Job Purpose
The Staff Nurse is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The Staff Nurse supports professional nursing practice across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The Staff Nurse will understand, support and promote the mission, vision and values of SSMC; provides age‑appropriate patient care according to the Nursing Scope of Practice as defined by the regulatory body. The Staff Nurse will adhere to and promote the Professional Nurses Code of Conduct for Abu Dhabi and UAE.
Responsibilities
Assessment and Diagnosis
- Collects and analyzes assessment data to determine diagnosis/issues.
- Assesses comprehensive data including physical, psychosocial, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual needs.
- Uses evidence‑based assessment techniques and instruments.
- Prioritizes data based on immediate condition or anticipated needs.
- Documents data in compliance with established guidelines.
Planning and Outcomes Identification
- Identifies expected outcomes and develops a plan that addresses health promotion, health restoration, and health maintenance.
- Involves patient, family, and healthcare team in formulating a culturally appropriate individualized plan of care.
- Applies evidence‑based practices in developing the plan.
- Modifies the plan according to ongoing assessment and reevaluation.
- Documents expected outcomes as measurable goals using standardized language.
Implementation and Coordination of Care Delivery
- Implements the plan in partnership with patient, family, and team in a timely manner.
- Performs treatments and procedures according to established guidelines.
- Administers medications per organization policies.
- Ensures all components, including modifications, are documented.
- Communicates relevant information across all levels of care.
- Demonstrates knowledge of resource consumption within a cost‑effective framework.
Health Teaching and Health Promotion
- Utilizes appropriate teaching strategies.
- Uses health promotion to support patients and families.
- Seeks opportunities for feedback and evaluation, including teach‑back.
- Documents health education components.
Evaluation
- Evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes.
- Evaluates patient/family understanding of the plan of care.
- Revises nursing diagnoses, outcomes, and plan using new assessment data.
- Involves patient, family, and healthcare team in the evaluation process.
- Provides comprehensive clinical handover/report.
- Attends patient care rounds and updates provider on changes in condition.
- Communicates changes to the team and unit activity.
- Documents reassessment and rationale for revisions.
Evidence‑Based Practice and Research
- Utilizes current evidence‑based nursing knowledge to guide and evaluate practice.
- Participates in evidence‑based and research activities appropriate to the nurse’s level of education and position.
- Shares evidence‑based findings with the healthcare team.
- Participates in performance improvement projects to evaluate and improve practice.
Leadership
- Demonstrates leadership behaviors in practice settings, across the profession, and in the community.
- Functions as a professional role model promoting a positive, team‑based, and safe work environment.
- Coordinates and supervises delegated activities, ensuring completion and serving as a resource for others.
- Demonstrates critical thinking in priority setting and decision‑making.
- Pursues informal and formal leadership opportunities.
- Participates in shared decision‑making that improves practice and organizational outcomes.
- Supervises practical nurses, junior staff, and student nurses to ensure safe and effective care.
- Oversees emergencies according to organizational policies and procedures.
Accountabilities
- Applies professional codes of ethics that ensure individual rights in all areas of practice.
- Maintains a professional and therapeutic nurse–patient relationship and serves as an advocate.
- Speaks up to question practices as appropriate for safety and quality improvement.
- Discloses illegal or incompetent practices and decisions by potentially impaired staff per policy.
- Evaluates own nursing practice against professional standards, guidelines, and regulations.
- Considers cost, environmental health, and impact when determining practice options.
- Utilizes current resources related to standards of care, policies, and patient needs.
- Uses electronic resources for information retrieval, communication, and documentation.
- Evaluates factors related to patient safety, effectiveness, availability, and cost when making decisions.
- Promotes an environment that reduces environmental health risks for staff.
- Communicates environmental health risks and exposure reduction strategies to consumers, families, colleagues, and communities.
- Demonstrates commitment to continuous learning and education for self and others, mentoring team members.
- Responds to emergencies according to organizational policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- Experience Required
- At least 2 years of clinical experience post‑qualification in an appropriate setting (waived for UAE nursing college/university graduates after completing internship).

- Educational Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing OR
- Degree in Nursing (minimum two years course duration) AND registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, or Australia AND valid/current national license AND BLS.
- Educational Qualifications Desired
- ACLS, PALS relevant to area of specialty.
