Job Purpose

The Staff Nurse is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The Staff Nurse supports professional nursing practice across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The Staff Nurse will understand, support and promote the mission, vision and values of SSMC; provides age‑appropriate patient care according to the Nursing Scope of Practice as defined by the regulatory body. The Staff Nurse will adhere to and promote the Professional Nurses Code of Conduct for Abu Dhabi and UAE.

Job Description

The Staff Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care, along with health education, evidence‑based practice, quality improvement and leadership activities within the occupational health setting. The role incorporates direct clinical care, care coordination and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Assessment and Diagnosis: Collect and analyze assessment data to determine diagnosis or issues, including physical, psychosocial, emotional, cognitive and spiritual needs; use evidence‑based assessment techniques; prioritize data; document in compliance with guidelines.
• Planning and Outcomes Identification: Identify expected outcomes and develop a plan that addresses health promotion, health restoration and health maintenance; involve patient, family and team; apply evidence‑based practices; modify plan based on ongoing assessment; document measurable goals.
• Implementation and Coordination of Care Delivery: Implement the plan in partnership with the patient, family and team; perform procedures according to guidelines; administer medications per policy; document all components; communicate relevant information across all levels; demonstrate cost‑effective practice.
• Health teaching and health promotion: Utilize teaching strategies tailored to the patient; promote healthy lifestyles and self‑management; seek feedback and document education.
• Evaluation: Evaluate progress toward outcomes; assess patient/family understanding; revise diagnoses and outcomes; involve patient, family and team; provide comprehensive handover reports; attend rounds; communicate changes; document reassessments.
• Evidence‑based Practice and Research: Integrate evidence and research findings; participate in evidence‑based and research activities; share findings; participate in performance improvement projects.
• Leadership: Demonstrate leadership behaviors; serve as a role model; coordinate and supervise delegated activities; demonstrate critical thinking; pursue leadership opportunities; supervise nurses and students; uphold professional ethics; maintain patient safety; respond to emergencies per policy.
• Accountabilities: Apply professional ethics, maintain therapeutic relationships, advocate for patients, question practices, disclose illegal or incompetent practices, evaluate nursing practice, consider effectiveness and cost, navigate resources, promote safe practice environment, communicate risks, commit to continuous learning, mentor staff, respond to emergencies.

Qualifications

Experience:

• Required – a minimum of 2 years clinical experience post‑qualification in an appropriate setting (waived for graduates of UAE nursing colleges/universities after completion of internship).
• Desired – N.A.

Educational Qualification:

• Bachelor degree in nursing OR
• Degree in Nursing (minimum 2 years course duration) AND Registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia AND valid/current national license AND BLS.
• Desired – ACLS, PALS relevant to area of specialty.
