Position: Quantity Surveyor – Trainee

Department: Projects / Estimation

Reports To: Senior Quantity Surveyor / Project Manager

The Quantity Surveyor – Trainee assists the Quantity Surveying team in estimating project costs, preparing quantity take-offs, monitoring project expenses, and supporting contract administration. This role provides practical training in cost control, budgeting, and commercial management within construction or engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing quantity take-offs from drawings and specifications.
• Support the preparation of Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
• Help estimate material, labor, and equipment costs for projects.
• Assist in preparing quotations and tender documents.
• Monitor project costs and maintain cost records.
• Support the preparation of interim valuations and payment applications.
• Verify subcontractor measurements and invoices.
• Maintain project documentation, reports, and cost databases.
• Coordinate with project engineers, procurement, and site teams.
• Attend site visits to verify measurements and monitor project progress.
• Ensure compliance with company procedures and contractual requirements.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Senior Quantity Surveyor or Project Manager.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Fresh graduates or candidates with up to 1 year of relevant experience are encouraged to apply.
• Basic understanding of construction methods and quantity surveying principles.

Skills & Competencies

• Basic knowledge of BOQ preparation and quantity take-offs.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel.
• Knowledge of estimation software is an advantage.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills.
• Good communication and teamwork abilities.
• Attention to detail and willingness to learn.
• Ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple tasks.

Preferred

• Internship or academic project experience in construction or engineering.
• Knowledge of FIDIC contracts is an advantage.
• Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Odoo) is a plus.
