Helper (Labour Camp Kitchen Helper)

We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking Kitchen Helper to support the daily operations of our kitchen. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a clean safe and organized kitchen environment while assisting with food preparation inventory handling and meal service. The role requires a strong commitment to food hygiene teamwork and operational efficiency to ensure high standards of cleanliness and quality are consistently maintained.

Key Responsibilities

1. Food Preparation:
   • Assist in the preparation of ingredients for meals such as washing cutting and measuring vegetables and proteins.
   • Use kitchen equipment like knives food processors and mixers safely and efficiently.
   • Follow recipes and guidelines provided by chefs to ensure consistency in food quality.
2. Cleaning and Sanitation:
   • Maintain cleanliness in the kitchen by washing dishes utensils and cooking equipment promptly.
   • Ensure all kitchen surfaces including counters and cutting boards are sanitized according to hygiene standards.
   • Dispose of waste properly and help organize storage areas including refrigerators and dry storage.
3. Support Chefs and Kitchen Staff:
   • Assist chefs with tasks as requested such as plating dishes and garnishing presentations.
   • Help with inventory management by checking stock levels and reporting shortages to kitchen managers.
   • Participate in team meetings and contribute to a positive work environment.
4. Food Safety:
   • Adhere to food safety guidelines and regulations during food handling and storage.
   • Monitor food temperatures and expiration dates to ensure the safety and quality of food served.
   • Personal hygiene and uniform maintenance are essential to promote a clean and professional kitchen atmosphere.
5. Assisting in Daily Operations:
   • Be available to assist with opening and closing procedures including setting up workstations and cleaning down at the end of the day.
   • Help with menu changes and special events by preparing necessary ingredients and overseeing mise en place.
   • Work collaboratively with kitchen staff to meet service demands during busy periods.

Qualifications :

• Education:  A high school diploma or equivalent is generally required. Culinary school experience is a plus but not mandatory.
• Experience:  Previous experience in a kitchen setting is beneficial. Entry-level positions are available for those new to the trade.
• Skills:
  • Strong teamwork capabilities and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good communication skills to interact with chefs and other kitchen staff.
