Associate Professor - AI & Big Data

Responsibilities & Requirements

We are seeking an experienced academic in the area of AI and Big Data with a PhD from a recognized university. The position is offered at the Associate Professor level.

The post-holder will contribute to the School’s teaching, research and governance activities by:

• Teaching AI and Big Data related modules including Big Data Management, Big Data Mining Techniques and Implementation, Foundations of Artificial Intelligence, Modern Artificial Intelligence, Machine learning models, generative AI and general adversarial networks (GANs), Natural language processing, and Computer Vision, as well as core computer science subjects such as programming, database management, web technologies, and networking.
• Supervising final year graduation projects, MSc projects and PhD theses.
• Engaging in scholarly research, producing high‑impact publications in international journals and conferences, and dissemination of knowledge.
• Actively participating in collaborative research with external organizations and seeking external research funding.

Applicants are expected to demonstrate research leadership from the outset and to raise the profile of the Faculty through external networking and high‑profile publications.

Qualifications & Experience

To qualify for the role, candidates must have:

• PhD in Computer Science/AI and Big Data with a thesis in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning from a recognized international academic institution.
• At least 6 years of teaching experience at an internationally recognised institution in areas related to Computer Science, AI, or Data Analytics.
• Working knowledge of Big Data Management, Big Data Mining Techniques and Implementation, Foundations of Artificial Intelligence, Modern Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision, Data Mining, Database performance tuning, GANs, Generative AI, and Natural Language Processing.
• Industry experience related to Advanced AI, Machine Learning and Smart systems (preferred).
• Active research record with publications indexed in Scopus and Web of Science (or equivalent).
• Fluency in English (spoken and written) and excellent communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Documented experience in the application of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Big Data Analysis to modern information systems problems.
• Ability to teach and conduct research on the latest AI and Big Data techniques and strategies, and to apply this knowledge in real‑world projects.
• Knowledge of Relational and Cloud databases.
• Experience with Hadoop, HBase, Spark and other Big Data management technologies.
• Experience with AI and Machine learning libraries and platforms such as TensorFlow, Keras, caffe, PyTorch, Theano, OpenCV, OpenAI, Gemini.
