Planning Engineer –

The Planning Engineer is responsible for developing, monitoring, and controlling project schedules to ensure construction and engineering activities are completed within the approved time, cost, and quality requirements. The role involves coordinating with project teams, contractors, consultants, and management to track progress, identify delays, and implement recovery measures.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed project schedules in coordination with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
• Prepare baseline programs, detailed work schedules, and short-term look-ahead schedules.
• Monitor actual project progress against the approved baseline schedule.
• Collect and verify daily and weekly progress data from site teams.
• Update project schedules and maintain accurate progress records.
• Identify delays, critical activities, and potential impacts on project completion dates.
• Prepare recovery and mitigation plans for delayed activities.
• Monitor critical path activities and advise the project team of potential schedule risks.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports.
• Develop progress curves, S-curves, manpower histograms, and other project-control reports.
• Track planned versus actual progress, productivity, and resource utilization.
• Coordinate with procurement, engineering, construction, and commercial teams to ensure activities are properly integrated into the project schedule.
• Monitor material, manpower, equipment, and subcontractor requirements in line with project schedules.
• Assist in preparing project forecasts and revised completion schedules.
• Analyze the causes and effects of project delays and assist in preparing extension-of-time documentation where required.
• Participate in progress meetings with clients, consultants, contractors, and project management.
• Prepare presentations and schedule updates for project review meetings.
• Maintain project documentation, planning records, and schedule-related correspondence.
• Ensure that project planning and reporting comply with contractual and company requirements.
• Support project managers in decision-making by providing accurate and timely schedule information.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related engineering discipline.
• Relevant experience in construction, infrastructure, MEP, industrial, or engineering projects.
• Proven experience in project planning and scheduling.
• Strong knowledge of construction sequences, project controls, and scheduling techniques.
• Experience with project scheduling software such as Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project.

Working Conditions

The Planning Engineer will work closely with project and site teams and may be based at the project site, head office, or a combination of both. Site visits and travel between project locations may be required depending on project requirements.
