Technical Planner, Lighting - Event Production (m/f/d)

Your mission

Working within our Design & Engineering team, you will take responsibility for the technical planning, design, and documentation of lighting systems across Event Production projects. You will collaborate closely with project teams, support units and other technical disciplines to develop lighting solutions that meet creative, operational, and project-specific requirements.

You will create and maintain detailed technical drawings and plans using Vectorworks , ensuring all lighting elements are accurately documented, technically coordinated, and prepared for efficient installation and delivery onsite.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

• Take ownership of the technical planning and design of lighting systems across Event Production projects, from early-stage concept and tender development through detailed engineering, installation, commissioning, and final delivery.
• Develop technically sound lighting solutions that translate creative intent and operational requirements into practical, buildable systems.
• Produce comprehensive 2D and 3D technical drawing packages using Vectorworks, including fixture layouts, positioning, rigging interfaces, cable routes, power distribution, infrastructure, and installation details.
• Develop and maintain detailed lighting documentation, including system designs, fixture schedules, equipment specifications, technical schematics, patching documentation, and associated design information.
• Perform technical planning and calculations to establish appropriate fixture types and quantities, positioning, electrical loads, power distribution, control architecture, infrastructure, and system integration.
• Lead the technical coordination of lighting systems with audio, video, rigging requirements.
• Analyse venue drawings, architectural information, production designs, and project documentation to establish design parameters, interfaces, limitations, and technical risks.
• Develop equipment schedules, scope of work, and technical requirements for suppliers and subcontractors.
• Work closely with project teams to balance technical requirements against project scope, programme, budget, operational needs, and delivery constraints.
• Provide lighting engineering and technical planning input during tenders and pre-production, supporting the development of competitive and deliverable technical solutions.
• Identify potential design clashes, technical risks, infrastructure limitations, and installation challenges, implementing appropriate mitigation measures at an early stage.
• Manage accurate technical drawing packages and design documentation, ensuring all approved revisions and project changes are properly incorporated.
• Support installation, programming, commissioning, rehearsals, and onsite delivery, providing technical guidance and troubleshooting design-related issues.
• Ensure all technical designs meet applicable industry, electrical, safety, manufacturer, and BeWunder quality requirements.
• Contribute to the development and standardisation of Design & Engineering workflows, technical standards, Vectorworks templates, drawing libraries, and planning methodologies.
• Continuously develop knowledge of emerging lighting technologies, control platforms, design tools, equipment, and industry best practices.

Your profile

• Proven experience in technical planning, lighting system design, lighting engineering, or a similar technical role within live events, entertainment, experiential, theatre, broadcast, or a related industry.
• Strong technical understanding of professional lighting systems, including lighting fixtures, control systems, DMX/networking, power distribution, cabling, data infrastructure, and associated equipment.
• Strong proficiency in Vectorworks and experience producing detailed technical drawings for live events or entertainment environments.
• Solid understanding of lighting system design principles, fixture selection and positioning, control and data distribution, power requirements, and system integration.
• Experience coordinating lighting requirements with other production disciplines such as audio, video, rigging, staging, power, and structures.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary project teams.
• Comfortable working independently while being an active contributor within the wider Design & Engineering and Event Production teams.
• Previous experience working on projects within the Middle East and/or international event production environment.
• Degree, diploma, or relevant technical qualification in Lighting Design, Technical Production, Event Technology, Electrical Engineering, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
