Position Title: Firefighter
Reports to: Watch Commander
Division: Airport Operations - RFFS Grade
Department: Rescue Firefighting Service (RFFS)

Job Purpose
The job purpose of an aviation firefighter is to perform rescue and firefighting techniques and tactics to ensure safety and compliance with international and national standards, such as those set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA). This role involves responding to emergencies at an airport, ensuring the operational readiness of firefighting equipment and vehicles, and conducting routine inspections and maintenance. Aviation firefighters also manage risks, participate in training and development programs, and build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to enhance emergency preparedness and response.
Training and Development
- Participate in educational Fire and Safety awareness programmes.
- Maintain a level of physical fitness as per RAK policies and procedures.
- Attend identified development programmes for succession planning purposes.
- Undergo physical and theoretical training according to the Structured Learning Program.
Process
- Operate Fire Fighting and Rescue Equipment and Tools.
- Respond to all medical emergencies within area of jurisdiction and scope of training.
- Adhere to safety standards and practices when responding to incidents and accidents.
- Participate in fire, evacuation, medical and security drills, and exercises.
Customer and Reporting
- Reports to the watch commander or leading fireman or his immediate superior.
Communication & Working Relationships
Internal – Airport Employees
- Providing rescue and first aid.
- Conducting risk management.
External – Passengers
- Providing rescue and first aid.
- Conducting risk management.
Qualifications
Educational
- Diploma or equivalent, minimum of high school education (12th Grade).
- Fluent in the English language (both spoken and written).
Professional
- Light UAE drivers license is highly advantageous.
- First Aid qualified and licensing is advantageous.
Physical Requirements
- Candidates should be in good general muscular development, with no marked obesity and medically fit.
- Must be at least 1.65 metres in height.
- Must have good eyesight.
- Clean shaven for wearing breathing apparatus.
- Fit for any manual work, including lifting, climbing and all firefighting related duties.
- Cannot be claustrophobic, acrophobic, or hemophobic.
- Entry into service should not be older than 25 years of age.
Experience
1 year airport experience in safety, firefighting would be advantageous.
Other Requirements – Safety Accountability and Responsibilities
- Comply with relevant safety requirements and procedures outlined in the Aerodrome Operations Manual and Safety Management System and any other instructions or notices issued by Ras Al Khaimah International Airport.
- Comply with safety requirements detailed within their training.
- Advise the Head of Department and the Airport Duty Officer team of any safety occurrence or system failure and identify and report any situation of potential risk or concern affecting safety via immediate supervisor or Safety Department.
- Submit Accident/Incident Reports.
- Support safety audits and investigations as they occur.
