Job Overview - Role Title: HD Driver / Heavy Duty Driver / Commercial Truck Driver
Key Responsibilities
- Vehicle Operation: Drive and operate heavy-duty vehicles over long or short distances, navigating various traffic and road conditions safely.
- Loading & Unloading: Oversee or assist with the loading, securing, and unloading of cargo, ensuring materials are properly balanced, tied down, and compliant with weight limits.
- Pre- & Post-Trip Inspections: Conduct routine safety checks on the vehicle before and after every trip (checking tires, brakes, lights, fluid levels, and emergency equipment) and report any mechanical issues.
- Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate driving logs, delivery receipts, waybills, and ensure compliance with local transport regulations, weight station rules, and driving hours limits.
- Route Planning & Navigation: Plan the most efficient routes using GPS or maps, taking into account traffic updates, road closures, and delivery schedules.
- Vehicle Maintenance & Care: Keep the cabin and cargo area clean, report maintenance requirements promptly, and ensure routine servicing schedules are followed.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Proven experience (typically 3–5 years) driving heavy-duty commercial vehicles, trucks, or trailers with a clean driving record.
- License (Mandatory): Valid Heavy Duty Driving License (e.g., Class CDL-A, Heavy Vehicle License, or regional equivalent) with proper endorsements.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a professional driving course or defensive driving certification is a strong plus.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in operating multi-axle trucks, manual transmissions, and specialized hauling equipment.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanics and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with GPS navigation systems and electronic logging devices (ELD).
- Core Competencies:
- Exceptional concentration, spatial awareness, and defensive driving skills.
- Strong time-management and punctuality.
- Good physical stamina to handle long hours behind the wheel and basic physical loading tasks.
