Veterinary Adviser - Temporary Consultancy Contract (UAE)

Role Overview

An experienced UAE-based veterinarian is required to provide specialist veterinary and practitioner input to a veterinary vaccine feasibility study supporting a UAE government authority.

The consultant will provide practical expertise on animal health, livestock production, disease control, vaccination practices, and veterinary services in the UAE and wider GCC. The role will involve working closely with a multidisciplinary consulting team and contributing on a flexible, call-off basis through December 2026.

The ideal candidate will have extensive field experience in ruminant health , particularly camels, sheep, goats, and cattle , combined with direct knowledge of livestock production and animal-health practices in the UAE.

Engagement Terms

This is an independent advisory consultancy engagement and is not an employment position.

The consultant will be engaged on a flexible, call-off basis through December 2026 , depending on project requirements.

Compensation will be based on an hourly consulting rate , determined according to the consultant's qualifications, professional experience, and relevant expertise.

The selected consultant may be required to support technical reviews, project discussions, stakeholder meetings, and field visits during the engagement period.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and validate data relating to livestock populations, disease prevalence, vaccination practices, and animal-health services in the UAE and GCC.

• Assess whether data, assumptions, and market insights accurately reflect local UAE and GCC conditions and relevant international practices.

• Challenge assumptions relating to vaccine demand, vaccine uptake, priority diseases, and vaccination requirements based on practical field experience.

• Provide expert input on animal disease prevention, control, surveillance, and vaccination programmes .

• Participate in internal project discussions and contribute veterinary expertise to the consulting team.

• Attend client, stakeholder, and expert meetings as required.

• Participate in field visits to camel, sheep, goat, cattle, and other livestock farms and operations .

• Help the project team interpret field observations and assess practical animal-health conditions.

• Explain technical veterinary matters clearly and effectively to consultants and non-specialist stakeholders.

• Provide input on veterinary regulations, vaccination programmes, and the regional animal-health supply chain .

• Respond to project queries and participate in meetings or field visits at short notice when required.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Veterinary degree, such as DVM, BVSc, BVMS, or equivalent .

• Minimum 10 years of professional veterinary experience .

• Strong expertise in ruminant health , particularly:

  • Camel health

  • Sheep health

  • Goat health

  • Cattle health

• Direct professional experience in livestock production and disease control in the UAE .

• Working knowledge of animal health and livestock markets across the wider GCC .

• Practical experience with livestock disease prevention, diagnosis, control, surveillance, and vaccination .

• Familiarity with veterinary vaccination programmes, veterinary regulations, and the animal-health supply chain .

• Working knowledge of poultry health .

• Exposure to companion animal and equine health is desirable.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex veterinary topics to non-specialists.

• Fluency in English .

• Arabic language skills are highly advantageous, particularly for farm visits and stakeholder engagement.

• Ability to work effectively alongside management consultants and multidisciplinary project teams .

• Flexibility to participate in meetings, discussions, and field visits at short notice.

• Immediate availability .

Desirable Experience

Experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous:

• Veterinary vaccine manufacturers or animal-health companies.

• Veterinary research institutes.

• Animal-health research or disease-control programmes.

• International organisations such as WOAH (World Organisation for Animal Health) or FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) .

• Veterinary public health.

• Government veterinary authorities or public-sector animal-health programmes.

• Veterinary vaccine markets and regional animal-health supply chains.

Location and Availability

• Must be currently based in the UAE .

• Must be available for potential travel within the UAE and wider GCC.

• Immediate availability is required.

• Must be able to respond to project requirements on a flexible, short-notice basis.
