Job Description

Job Overview:

Leads the fabrication yard construction effort for his defined scope of work. Plans, directs and leads the construction effort in applying the most cost-effective plan to completion and to lead the execution of that plan in accordance with our Corporate and Area guidelines and operating standards.

Responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day fabrication management of the project principally through the forecast and control of multi discipline labour. Responsible for implementation and co-ordination of the scope of work as related to construction onshore, pre-commissioning, loadout of the facilities in conformance with the requirements of the Contract, the Scope of Work, and in accordance with the Project Schedule. This will be achieved whilst maintaining the standards of safety and quality defined in the company procedures. It is imperative that the fabrication management of the company to provide direction for the management of the project within the constraints of our multi-project environment.

It is fundamental for the construction activities to be managed in the best interest of the shareholders of JRM.

Responsibilities

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Seek guidance from the Construction Manager and Fabrication Management as appropriate before making critical and important decisions
• Provide direction and make decisions in pursuit of the project and area goals and objectives
• Provide project leadership to the yard Supervisors
• Set standards of behavior
• Solicit ideas from the team members in order to overcome any difficulties that may be encountered during the implementation of the project
• Direct and coordinate his construction team in the execution of the project
• Foster an environment for building team morale and builds consensus within the team
• Generate a sense of urgency among the team members in order to get things done
• Hold the members of his construction team accountable for work performed per their roles and responsibilities
• Clearly delegate actions and responsibilities and define deliverable requirements in terms of both scope and schedule to team members
• Concentrate on doing the Fabrication Project Superintendent’s job and allow subordinates to have independence in performing their functions, however, get involved will all the important decisions on the projects and become familiar with all the relevant details
• Facilitate timely problem resolution with the construction team members
• Facilitate the interface between the construction team, the safety and quality departments
• Plan the project to a level of detail to enable sound decision-making and a clear definition of weekly requirements for those executing the work
• Forecast tools and equipment needs for the scope of work being undertaken
• Identify specific training needs in advance of the requirement
• Review the plan weekly in consultation with the Project Construction Manager and other team members and agree and confirm the 4WLA activities and manning requirements
• Demonstrate good planning and organization in day-to-day activities
• Obtain commitment from the Project Construction team on the timely delivery of data to ensure the labor force allocated to the work is productively used
• Monitor construction productivity and schedule performance and investigate reasons for less than satisfactory performance. Institute measures for improvement by modification to operating procedures/work instructions
• Review the project progress and productivity with the Project Construction Manager
• Attend the weekly construction meeting. Arrive fully prepared and informed to provide answers to questions raised during the meeting. Be prepared to fully participate in the meeting
• Attend project review meetings as required by the Construction Manager
• Appraise all direct reports, provide recommendations of training and development

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications & Education:

• A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is often required, although relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of formal education
• Several years of experience in construction management, particularly in the oil and gas industry, is essential. Previous experience as a Project Manager or Site Manager is also valuable
• Technical Knowledge: A solid understanding of construction techniques, materials, and equipment is required. Knowledge of oil and gas operations and their associated construction practices is also necessary
• Communication Skills: A Construction Superintendent must be able to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders, including project owners, contractors, and employees
