Job Overview - Role Title: Lifting Appointed Person (LEEA Certified)
Key Responsibilities
- Lift Planning & Engineering: Design comprehensive, written lift plans, method statements, and rigging studies (from routine to complex/heavy lifts) detailing crane positioning, radii, and load paths.
- Load Calculations & Analysis: Accurately calculate load weights, center of gravity, dynamic factors, and ground bearing pressures; interpret crane load charts and manufacturer specifications.
- Risk Management & Compliance: Conduct thorough risk assessments to identify environmental, physical, and proximity hazards (e.g., overhead power lines, underground services, weather constraints).
- Selection of Equipment & Accessories: Specify and select the correct lifting equipment (cranes, hoists, gantries) and accessories (slings, shackles, spreader beams) while verifying that all certificates and thorough examinations are valid.
- Team Competency & Briefings: Appoint competent lifting team members (riggers, crane operators, signallers/banksmen) and lead pre-lift toolbox talks to ensure full team alignment.
- On-Site Supervision & Intervention: Oversee critical execution phases, ensure safe working perimeters/exclusion zones are established, and hold the absolute authority to halt any lifting operation if safety conditions are compromised.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Minimum 5–8 years of proven experience in heavy lifting operations, rigging, or crane coordination, with at least 2–3 years specifically functioning as a designated Appointed Person.
- Certifications (Mandatory):
- Valid LEEA-Approved Appointed Person for Lifting Operations certification.
- Valid industry safety credentials (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA, or local statutory safety certifications).
- Education: Technical diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline is strongly preferred.
- Technical Expertise:
- Deep understanding of LOLER regulations, BS 7121 standards, and global lifting best practices.
- Proficiency in reading structural/architectural drawings and utilizing lift-planning or CAD software.
- Core Competencies:
- Exceptional mathematical, spatial reasoning, and analytical capabilities.
- Decisive leadership under high-pressure site conditions.
- Clear communication and authoritative safety stance.
